Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) blew into the news cycle after referring to his Republican opponent as a “low-life scumbag,” “gutter dweller,” and “real stupid” in a debate today.

Ellison later issued a statement apologizing, but not before it blew up into a national story. Minnesota’s fifth district is so blue that the Democrats could nominate Daffy Duck and still win, but this might be a little worse than anything Daffy could conjure up.
