Here’s How All Of Your Childhood Nightmares Were Made. Why Didn’t I See This Back Then?!

The big movie studios of today, with their insane production costs, can CGI a dragon spitting fire on a hobbit village all they want but a scary monster can sometimes be nothing more than an appendage on a stick that you wave in front of the camera. As was the case through most of the 80s and early 90s. Behind every scary movie monster and behind every nightmare you ever had as a kid there was a team of model makers, costume designers, makeup artists, puppeteers, set designers, cinematographers, actors, stuntmen and of course, the incredible imagination of writers and conceptual illustrators. Here are some examples of how famous Hollywood movie monsters were made.

Castle Freak [1995]

House 2 [1987]

The Fly [1986]

The Ring [2002]

Hellboy 2 [2004]

Alien [1979]

Robocop [1987]

Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors [1987]

The Terminator [1984]

Child’s Play [1988]

The Army of Darkness [1992]

An American Werewolf in London [1981]

Beetlejuice [1988]

Total Recall [1990]

The Thing [1982]

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back [1980]

That is really cool, and you gotta love the craftsmanship and artistry that was involved in older movies. Sadly, sit’s becoming a forgotten art. Source: reddit Share these movie monsters with your friends below, and show them they had nothing to be afraid of as kids.
